Bedroom Makeover: Meet Mr. Tester
If you read a couple of days ago, you may remember that I am in the process of doing a dining room makeover. Well anyone who knows me knows I typically like to tackle more than one thing at a time so I thought I would also clue you in on my bedroom makeover.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a before picture of my bedroom quite yet. I’m in the process of “going through” my closets, storage ottoman and dressers and I’m sure you can imagine that does not leave me with a very tidy bedroom. Once I get it all tidy again I will be sure and post it but it’s a standard “much too small” room with a king size bed, 1 nightstand, 1 armoire and 1 long dresser plus lots of little things strewn around the room.
This time around, I’m not working with a specific color palette, instead I’m going to share with you my Pinterest inspiration board. These are all the things that I love and what I would love to see in my own bedroom. I’m going for creams, silvers, little bits of black, red plus touches of sparkle and glam to make it shine! My husband and I both love a little of the old renaissance period so we also want to work in a small bit of black ironwork. I even found a lovely skull head that is covered in jewels that I absolutely love. Yes I realize that isn’t everyone’s taste, but it’s the style we really like.
My main goal is to create something light and airy, yet warm and romantic, after all it is a bedroom. I also want something that isn’t completely “girly” so that my husband feels it’s part of him too.
One of the first things I will be doing is refinishing my bedroom furniture. My bedroom furniture is a lighter wood finish but it is solid and heavy. (I promise to include some pictures of those in the next day or two if you want to come back). I’m starting with the furniture because this is going to set the base for my room and will require the most work as far as painting goes.
Because I’m not 100% certain on what I want to do with my furniture, I’ve decided to create a tester for myself. I know, I could just get a piece of wood to try my different finishes on that I’m considering but I am a very visual person and I need to see a completed piece. I picked this nightstand up at a yardsale and the style is very similar to what I am doing in my room.
My plan is to use this piece (who I’m calling Mr. Tester) to test all the various paint styles I am considering until I find one that I love. I just finished my first attempt at a finish which turned out beautiful but wasn’t quite what I was looking for. I’ll be blogging about that one tomorrow, so stay tuned. Once I find the perfect finish that I love applied to this nightstand, then I will move on and finish the rest of my bedroom furniture in the same finish.
So what sort of finish would you like to see me give a try to go with this room? I’m going to keep going until I find the one that sings to me!
Absolutely wonderful! I am always in awe of people who have the creativity and ability to do decorating projects like this.
Thanks Benecia! I won’t pat myself on the back quite yet until that creativity actually comes through in my bedroom. LOL Thanks for stopping by, hope to see you back.
Thanks for sharing. My room needs a major makeover too!
What a great idea to have an old piece of furniture as a tester! I love Pinterest for gathering inspiration too – but mostly I just gather and then never get around to actually doing anything
Ana, I’m guilty too. I have my Pinterest for this website for things related to painting furniture, but I have a personal account as well…ya I’m an addict.
Looks like you have it all under control. I like the Pinterest inspiration board and the tester – what great ideas. Looking forward to following your progress.
Thanks Edie! It’s coming along, if I can just decide. lol
